Altran is committed to the implementation of 5G in Andalusia, a community in which it is leading the development of seven projects from different industries, which are part of the "5G Pilot in Andalusia" project, promoted by the Ministry of Economy and Business, through Red.es, and which is being developed by Vodafone and Huawei.
Of the seven projects, in which more than 50 professionals participate, three of them are executed from the Center for Innovation in Advanced Manufacturing (AICAM), based in Cádiz and which has a staff of 100 professionals who, together with the 300 employees in Seville, reaches the figure of 400 employees in Andalusia.
The three projectserated by the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Center will be applied to the oil, railway and aeronautical sectors. With the help of 5G technology, the aim is to enhance maintenance operations by making them more agile and efficient, through Augmented Reality, in some cases, and allowing real-time monitoring of manufacturing, in others.
The other four that are being developed for the Andalusian community are aimed at the humanitarian and maritime transport sectors. Two of them are focused on improving adherence to medical treatment for the elderly and facilitating the rescue of people using unmanned aerial vehicles. The other two are focused on promoting maritime transport services offered to customers in the boarding areas and on the ships themselves.
The company has disclosed these use cases during an event on 5G organized on November 27 by Vodafone and Red,es in the Smart Center of Seville, in which it participated as a strategic partner and made a virtual visit to a 4.0 factory comparing the potential offered by 5G with respect to current technologies.
The act was chaired by the Minister of Economy and Business (acting) Nadia Calviño, along with the Mayor of Seville, Juan Espadas Cejas; the Secretary of State for Digital Advancement, Francisco Polo; the Minister of Economy, Knowledge, Companies and University of the Junta de Andalucía, Rogelio Velasco, and the President and CEO of Vodafone Spain, António Coimbra.
During the round table, Pilar Rodríguez, director of Strategy, Innovation and R&D at Altran Spain, highlighted the ambition that this project represents, with 32 use cases plus 60 agents involved and a large group of end users. He also reflected on the opportunity for Andalusia to break the digital divide in the region.
In addition to the aforementioned projects that it leads, Altran participates as a PMO (Project Management Office) in another 25 that are being carried out in Andalusia for institutions, public companies, fairgrounds and energy, retail or communications companies, among other.
